چکیده
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of somatostatin analog scintigraphy with indium-111-pentetreotide and its overall impact on management in patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NET). Subjects and Methods: Twenty-two consecutive patients with a proven or clinically suspected GEP-NET with or without proven metastases were imaged at 24 and 48 h after injection of 111 In-pentetreotide. The scintigraphic findings were compared with results from conventional imaging methods. The final diagnosis was based on histopathological and surgical findings and complementary radiology. Results: Somatostatin receptor-positive lesions were found in 20 of the patients, whereas conventional methods were positive in 18 patients. Additionally, 13 new tumor sites were discovered by somatostatin receptor scintigraphy in 5 patients (liver: 6; chest: 2; bone: 1; abdomen: 4). The surgical therapeutic strategy was changed in 7 patients (32%). Conclusions: Our data reinforced that scintigraphy with 111 In-pentetreotide repreReceived: April 15, 2010 Accepted: October 25, 2010 Sharjeel Usmani Department of Nuclear Medicine Hussain Makki Al Jumma Center for Specialized Surgery PO Box 1488, 83001 Khaitan (Kuwait) Tel. +965 9761 3437, E-Mail dr_shajji @ yahoo.com © 2011 S. متن کاملSarcoidosis mimicking metastatic carinoid on indium-111 pentetreotide scintigraphy
Carcinoid is a neuroendocrine neoplasm derived from primitive stem cells, occurring most frequently in the alimentary tract. Somatostatin-receptor scintigraphy with indium-111 pentetreotide is a sensitive and noninvasive technique for imaging carcinoid and its metastatic spread. However, nontumoral lesions such as sarcoidosis may also express somatostatin receptors, which may present a diagnost...
متن کاملLocalization of Neuroendocrine Tumors Using Somatostatin Receptor Imaging With Indium-111-Pentetreotide (OctreoScan).
BACKGROUND: Many imaging methods have been used to detect neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal system. There is no gold standard for identifying the location of primary tumors and their potential metastases, and most conventional imaging techniques cannot detect tumors less than 1.0 cm in size. METHODS: The authors have investigated the use of 111-In-pentetreotide as an imaging agent f...
متن کاملEffective treatment of bone metastases from a neuroendocrine tumour of the pancreas with high activities of Indium-111-pentetreotide.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate therapy with high doses of (111)Indium pentetreotide in a patient with bone metastases from a carcinoid of the pancreas. CASE REPORT A 55-Year-old male presented in November 1990 with stomach ache with dorsal irradiation. Ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT-) scans of the abdomen revealed a tumour of the tail of the pancreas and liver metastases. Histological exa...
متن کاملSomatostatin receptor scintigraphy versus chromogranin A assay in the management of patients with neuroendocrine tumors of different types: clinical role.
BACKGROUND Current diagnosis and staging of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are significantly improved by the introduction of the chromogranin A (CgA) assay in plasma or serum as a tumor marker, and by the use of somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) for tumor localization. However, the clinical role of CgA assay compared with SRS in the management of NETs has not been well elucidated. PATIEN...
